Frequently asked questions

Q

How long does it take to get certified?

Our Basic Scuba Certification usually takes 6 evenings over a two week period, and 1 weekend. We will do our best to schedule a time that fits your schedule. Our class is a total of 32 hours of training and OW.

Q

How old do I need to be to get certified?

The minimum age is 10 years old, with limits…. for a junior certification and 15 for a full certification.

Q

How much does getting certified cost?

Fee includes books, registration, tuition, and equipment use.   Once certified, you are able to rent gear at any diving facility.  Please see our price listing for each course under the training tab.

Q

What will I need before my first in- water class?

You will only need to have your own booties and swim suit. We will supply everything else.

Q

Do I need to buy equipment before I get started?

We will furnish all equipment except for booties and gloves.  Booties are required while gloves are only recommended.  First night of class is a discussion on equipment so that you can make a better informed decision on your first purchases.

Q

Why should I choose your NAUI course over other competing courses?

The National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) was the first “National” Diver Education agency, founded in 1959, and since has been the leader in Diver Education. This is evidenced by NAUI being the preferred Agency for the U.S. Navy Seals, NASA, NOAA, U.S. Coast Guard Rescue Divers, The Florida Aquarium and Disney Resorts.  The NAUI Scuba Diver Course is the only Course that teaches every student the skill of Unconscious Diver Rescue.  NAUI Instructors must satisfy the ultimate question of their Instructor Trainers, “Would I allow this Instructor to teach MY loved one to dive” and only if the answer is yes, do they gain the right and certification necessary to teach you and your loved ones.

Q

After my certification, can I come back to the pool or ocean just to refresh my skills?

Absolutely! We always welcome you back to dive for a “tune up” before a trip. Set up your gear and adjust your weights or just work on skills. There is no charge for our students.

Q

If I am unable to make it to class - Can I reschedule?

Yes, we will reschedule for you twice, but there are no refunds on your class if you cancel. There is a set amount of students per class and majority of summer season classes are full. There is a buy back on any books or DVDs if you cancel your class 2 weeks prior to the class starting. They must be in the original condition. A restocking fee may apply.

Q

How long is the certification good for?

Your NAUI certification does not expire, you are certified for life.  But, if you do not make any dives for an extended amount of time, say a year, it is prudent for you to contact us for a refresher!

Your certification is also well respected and received around the world.  Yes, your C-card will allow you to dive around the globe.

Q

Should I be worried about Sharks?

No, not at all.  Sharks are in fact very beautiful and sometimes shy creatures.  We as humans are not “prey”.  Simply give them the same respect you would like and remember, no petting!
